I do it a bit differently than it has been done in math classes previously. They each work on individual whiteboards, but talk together while working. I walk around and answer questions while they work. After we finish each problem, one person at each table rotates to the next table. The same people move all period. I usually have them do a quick rock, paper, scissors, to determine who has to move. I usually have the students put everything away and clear off all of the tables.
Then, I have them put their bookbags against the walls so everyone can move around the room more easily. I also tell them to be a good date by talking and helping each other out. Occasionally I will have an odd number, then I just put three people at one table. I think it works so well for two reasons. First, the kids are moving all period long, which helps them stay alert.
Second, they are working with a new partner for each problem. The combination of these two things keeps them more interested and alert than the normal review day.

This is a required course, designed for students who are planning to attend college or pursue a technical post-secondary career. The course emphasizes facility with symbolic expressions and forms, alongside graphical and tabular representations. It moves beyond the linear and quadratic forms learned in Algebra 1, to several other families of functions that extend those fundamental concepts.
It also builds upon concepts of scaling and transformation from Geometry. Students will study polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, and discrete families; and will build functions by combination and composition, investigating both their abstract properties and the use of functions as tools for modeling real-world situations.
The course includes with several topics from probability and statistics, with an emphasis on random processes. Students taking this course are required to have a graphing calculator; and must also have access to a computer outside school, either at home or the library.

This course is designed for students who are passionate about applications of mathematics and have a desire for a career in computer programming. In this course, Algebra 2 standards are combined with the game, simulation, and software development concepts into an integrated secondary curriculum that meets both Algebra 2 course requirements and CTE standards.
Students will research, analyze, and modify existing program code and develop their own program code that will integrate major Algebra 2 concepts in each of the six units; linear functions, quadratic functions, polynomial function, rational expressions and equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, and systems of equations. Through the unit programming projects, students understand and master the mathematics and programming code necessary in the development of games such as Pong and Angry Birds and the simulation of fractal images based on iterating rational functions.
Students will also explore some ethical issues around the rapid development of technology and its impact on society. This unit will provide students with both a review in Algebra 1 topics as well as an immediate “hook” for the students provided by delving into the world of programming games.
